The Honesdale Area Pool will officially open its doors on June 25, 2018, Councilor Jim Jennings announced with excitement at the Borough Council meeting on June 11, 2018.
A fixture of the Honesdale Borough Parks system, the Honesdale Area Pool is a fun, friendly and ADA accessible facility located at 1874 Fair Avenue, Honesdale. The pool offers recreational services to both borough residents and residents of the surrounding communities. The pool proudly services community camps, including busloads of children from the YMCA Summer Camp program, and people attending Dyberry Day Camp (12pm to 1pm, every weekday in July).
The pool complex features changing facilities, ample parking for cars and bikes, a snack bar, a shallow end between 3- and 5- feet deep, a deep end with a diving board and waterslide, and plenty of soft grass to spread out a towel and enjoy the sunshine (or a picnic!).
This season, the pool welcomes two new leaders to its staff: Matthew Taylor as Pool Manager, and Austen Miller as the pool’s Assistant Manager. Taylor brings with him experience as a lifeguard at the Carbondale YMCA, while Miller is a Honesdale High School graduate who is returning to the pool this season in a leadership role.
The Honesdale Borough will continue to accept lifeguard applications throughout the season. Certified lifeguards who are seeking employment are kindly asked to contact Judy Poltanis, Borough Secretary, to acquire an application or download from the Borough’s website, honesdaleborough.com. Applications should be completed and returned to the Borough Secretary for consideration. Competitive hourly rates are available, and determined by years of service as a lifeguard.
