This new community resource has been made possible through a generous grant of $114,000 awarded by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). The funding was secured under the DCNR Community Conservation Partnerships Program, which draws from a mix of state and federal resources dedicated to supporting community-driven conservation projects.
The creation of the dog park and trail has been a priority for the Honesdale Borough Parks & Recreation Committee, with the formal approval of the Borough Council dating back to 2022. With design work facilitated by Woodland Design Associates of Honesdale, construction completed by Reinfurt Excavating and the grant application submitted by Hailstone Economic Consultants based in Scranton, the project embodies a true collaborative effort aimed at responding to community needs. The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) also contributed funding through its Community Impact Grant in 2024.
The new facility features a comprehensive construction plan including ADA-compliant parking access, fencing, and gates, along with meticulously crafted landscaping and a well-designed trail system. This trail elegantly links the pool’s parking area to the dog park itself, complete with essential signage and site enhancements. The project not only highlights the borough’s commitment to enhancing recreational amenities but also reflects the collective voice of residents who actively petitioned for the dog park.
