Friends of Honesdale Parks
Honesdale is blessed to have a system of public parks that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities with new enhancements, under development all the time.
“Why be a Friend of Honesdale Parks?” you ask? Friends support one another and Honesdale’s parks require the full support of the community. Central Park provides the backdrop for so many exciting events and memories in Honesdale; concerts, ceremonies, a place for children to play, snow falling in a picturesque ‘Winter Wonderland,’ or something unique to your experiences. Gibbons Memorial Park is 55 acres of trails including the iconic Richard “Dick” Smith Memorial Star atop Irving Cliff with views of the Lackawaxen River. Apple Grove, the Honesdale Area Pool, and Veterans Park plus the future Honesdale Dog Park provide great areas to play, adventure along the Dyberry Creek, and splash down from the diving board or slide. Several other areas also constitute the parks system including Torrey Park (Triangle Park), Berris Memorial Park, Riverside Park along the Lackawaxen River (both sides), and the Fred R. Miller Pavilion on Main Street.
Whether it’s free concerts from the stage in Central Park, signage, trail markers, playground equipment, lighting, landscaping, or various other operating costs, the upkeep and maintenance of our public park system can be costly and the borough budget can only be stretched so far.
That’s where “Friends of Honesdale Parks” provides you, dear community member, a way to chip in to designate donations for specific projects or generally help improve our parks for everyone!
